Steady Job or a Career in Entertainment?
by Amanda Ortega
Making the decision...

So you know you have the passion. You know you have the talent. But do you have the drive? A career in Arts and Entertainment can be a discouraging one at times. Back to back auditions, turned down work, no after no, slaving through a day job just to get by until you hit your big break. It might feel like that big break will never come. You're starving, physically and emotionally. You crave food because this business isn't always the best paying one at first. You crave a yes because you will hear one hundred no's and maybe even another hundred on top of that before you get that "big break". You might be thinking of giving up and settling for a steady job. Who doesn't like to pay their bills and eat? But how do you know you're not just around the corner from hearing that yes? Your drive has to meet your passion. Both go hand in hand when it comes to working in the industry or really in any other aspect of life. If one falls short of the other, you will fall short of achieving your goals. A career in arts and entertainment can be an incredibly rewarding one when you work hard and keep your vision in mind. A 9 to 5 job may be perfect for others, but, for someone with a stimulation in the arts, it may be a huge mistake. Never give up on your dreams. Never give up on what makes you happy. Your dreams could become a reality, but you have to believe in yourself first.
